Teen entrepreneurs tasked with solving a societal challenge
Houston, Texas — On June 23rd, the teen entrepreneurs of Dulicious Co. from Junior Achievement of Southeast Texas were named the winners of the 2022 Delta Social Impact Award during Junior Achievement's National Student Leadership Summit. The team was selected to receive the award from among 15 competing student companies representing JA operations across the country. The JA National Student Leadership Summit was held virtually June 19 through 23.
Dulicious Co. won the Delta Social Impact Award by applying entrepreneurial thinking to create a realistic, achievable, and innovative solution to phone cases. CasECO is a 100% biodegradable phone case created through organically sourced, natural wheat straw, making it compostable at the end of its lifecycle.
The Houston students founded Dulicious Co. as part of their participation in JA Company Program®, in which high school students start and run a real business enterprise under the guidance of a volunteer from the local business community. The teens devise a product designed to fill an unmet consumer need, produce, and market their product or service, and recruit investors for their company.
Junior Achievement's National Student Leadership Summit is a contest of business skills, ingenuity, and innovation that focuses on the accomplishments of U.S. JA Company Program students, ages 15-19, during the 2021-2022 academic year. During the JA National Student Leadership Summit, participating teens' companies were evaluated on their financial performance, an interview with the judging panel, and a formal presentation.
