Truist Invests in Houston's Future

Recently, Joe Thompson, Executive Vice President of Truist Financial Corporation, along with Karen Dixon and Victoria Rixon, visited the JA Capstone facility to see JA BizTown’s version of Truist Bank in action. The Truist Foundation awarded Junior Achievement of Southeast Texas a grant of $500,000 to support our mission and help prepare young people to succeed in a global economy.

JA BizTown is one of JA’s hallmark programs and consists of in-class lessons and then culminates in a one-day simulation where students run a mock city. During this simulation, students operate banks, manage restaurants and stores, pay bills, and vote on civic issues. Students are provided with a solid foundation of business, economics, and free enterprise education. The program content augments students’ core curriculum in social studies, reading, writing, and mathematics. Through daily lessons, hands-on activities, and active participation in a simulated community designed to support differentiated learning styles, students develop a strong understanding of the relationship between what they learn in school and their successful participation in a local economy.

Joe Thompson said of Truist’s partnership with JASET, “through partnerships like this one, Truist is living our purpose to inspire and build better lives and communities.” Thank you for investing in Houston’s future, Truist!
